insist的基本意思是“堅持”,常用於堅持意見、看法、主張等。
insist既可用作及物動詞,也可用作不及物動詞。作及物動詞時,不能用名詞、代詞或動詞不定式作賓語,衹能接that引導的從句。若指尚未發生的動作,從句謂語常用虛擬語氣(should+動詞原形或直接用動詞原形); 若表示一個已發生的動作或已存在的狀態時,從句謂語多用陳述語氣。that有時可以省略。
insist用作不及物動詞時,其後常須加介詞on〔upon〕,然後接名詞、代詞或動名詞。該動名詞前可加物主代詞或名詞、人稱代詞的賓格形式作其邏輯主語,該動名詞的否定形式是在其前直接加not。
